PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A crowd of people lined the roadway near the Publix by the bridge leading to MaraLago on Sunday, gathering to watch former President Donald Trump’s motorcade as it departed the area.

Dozens stood along the route waving American and Cuban flags. Some held a long banner written in Spanish reading “Liberty for Cuba’s political prisoners,” alongside photos of individuals described as political detainees.

Video from the scene shows the group pressed along the roadside, cheering, holding signs, and recording as Trump’s motorcade passed. Trump could be seen inside one of the vehicles, briefly waving back before the caravan continued on. The gathering remained peaceful and did not disrupt traffic.

Sunday’s display came just a week after a similar rally took place nearby, where demonstrators gathered along Southern Boulevard calling for the U.S. to “free Cuba now.” That earlier event followed recent comments from Trump suggesting the Cuban government was nearing a breaking point as the island faces widespread blackouts, food shortages, and an escalating energy crisis.

During that same period, Cuban President Manuel Díaz-Canel said he had been in talks with Trump’s aides about areas of “cooperation,” while Trump publicly declared that “Cuba is next” and that the communist government’s “days are numbered.” For many in South Florida’s Cuban community, discussions around potential political change on the island remain deeply personal and long-awaited.
