Five-county chase in WNC ends after stop sticks flip car, suspect airlifted

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A car chase that spanned five counties in western North Carolina ended after authorities used stop sticks, causing the suspect's vehicle to overturn, authorities confirmed.

The chase ended with a crash in Avery County, and the suspect was airlifted to Mission Hospital, according to the Avery County Sheriff's Office. The suspect had barricaded themselves inside their vehicle before being taken into custody, the sheriff's office said.

News 13 is working to learn more about an initial incident in Buncombe County that led to the pursuit and may have injured a Buncombe County deputy.
